Author Interview – Fiona Ingram @FionaRobyn

What’s your next project? My first book started out as a short story for my nephews, turned into a book – The Secret of the Sacred Scarab – and then into a book series. I am getting the second book – The Search for the Stone of Excalibur – ready for publication so I am swamped with cover, interior graphics, website text and images, and planning the next launch. As well as that, I am finishing off Book Three – The Temple of the Crystal Timekeeper.

When did your first know you could be a writer? It began when I would write little plays for my four brothers and me to act out for my long-suffering parents. We had a wonderful book of children’s stories called The Treasure Casket (which I still have), so there was no shortage of themes. I had a great and eager cast; we would make the invitations and costumes, prepare a meal for our audience of two (my parents had to buy all the ingredients for the meal and pay for the show as well!) and then act out the play.

Then I began writing amusing poetry about family events and family members. I would also illustrate these poems. I still have every single one of my poems. Gradually I drifted into writing, and then jumped from the theater into editing, and then full-time writing.

What is your greatest strength as a writer? I think it is never getting writer’s block. My mom used to ask me about this and I would always reply, “Oh, I’ll think of something.” I always do. Reviewers most often comment on my descriptions of places and characters in my book/s. I rely on my imagination to get my characters into and out of situations, and to sometimes take the lead. Right now I am thinking about my fourth book in my middle grade adventure series. I have the title, the ideas, and what I want my heroes to achieve – I just need to put it all together.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp? I want to inspire young readers who enjoy my book with the idea that “You can do it. You can go to an amazing place and have an incredible adventure. You can be a hero and you don’t need a magic wand.” When the boys’ aunt admonishes them and says there’ll be no adventures, just a nice safe tour, Adam says to himself in Chapter One, “Anything can happen in Egypt.” Well, more than anything did happen! Life is an adventure so live it, is my motto.

The smallest of incidents in a new and unusual place can prove to be an exciting and elevating experience for a child. We have become cushioned and comfortable in a world with techno-amenities. We have forgotten how to really see/smell/touch/taste/hear the experience of life.

Any new and unusual location will spark a child’s imagination. It doesn’t have to be Egypt—it can be a wilderness trail, a national park, a countryside visit, a marine excursion, an encounter with animals, a totally different environment that stimulates the senses. My two nephews were 10 and 12 when we went to Egypt and it was amazing to see them react to the things they had only read about—such as monuments, mummies (yes!), camels, vast expanses of arid desert … When they returned they were certainly different. Their experiences changed them.

How much of the book is realistic? Apart from the character of the Scarab King, everything in the book is based on reality (history/geography/archaeology), but with a ‘magical’ twist. Egypt is such an exotic location and the adventure in The Secret of the Sacred Scarab is so different from anything the average child experiences that it is definitely a way to transform their perceptions.

They’ll be reading about two boys their own age standing in front of the Great Pyramid, riding an uncomfortable steed (a camel) across a scorching desert, coming face to face with an angry giant cobra, and experiencing such unusual cultural traditions that it will spark their imaginations. The cities they’ll visit with Justin and Adam (the heroes) will be long-dead cities and temples of incredible magnitude, still impressive even in a ruined state.

The monuments won’t be modern statues—they’ll be gigantic effigies of long-dead pharaohs, queens, and tributes to the many Egyptian gods of days gone by. Now that’s the kind of reality that becomes magical for any young reader.

Author Interview – Marilyn Holdsworth

Why did you choose to write this particular book?
I think young women today are confronting difficult life changing choices that dramatically affect their family as well as themselves.
Is there a message in your novel you want readers to grasp?
Yes. I would say that in Making Wishes my message is: A quest for self-discovery to find ones true values often comes at a high price.
How much of the book is realistic?
Although my characters are fictional they are realistic and the story is very believable.
How important do you think villians are?
Very. Conflict created by a clash of good and evil keeps a story moving. Readers engaged in the plot want to see justice done.
Can we expect to see any more books from you?
Yes. I am currently working on my fourth novel.
Have you started another book?
Yes. I am well into writing my fourth novel, The Portrait of Lady J.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
I like to take my dog for walks in the park. I also love to listen to classical music. And for me walking on the beach at sunrise or sunset is the ultimate relaxation.

Author Interview - Ramz Artso @RamzArtso

Image of Ramzan Artsikaev

Who is your publisher?

I am my own publisher, as I’m an indie author.

Why did you choose to write this particular book?

Because, as a Harry Potter and Twilight fan, I felt that the market is lacking that special, magical touch to it. I asked myself, what would someone like me like to read, and I came up with the Peter Simmons series.

How do you promote this book?

I use social networks and ask book reviewers to check out my book.

Will you write others in the same genre?

Yes, I most definitely will write others in the same genre, which is young-adult. I’ve also got a lot of paranormal romance coming up.

Is there a message in your novel you want readers to grasp?

In my entire Peter Simmons series – yes. I want readers to understand that we, as sapient beings, have to have enough sense to support each other and concentrate on our similarities not differences. If we accomplish that, we will be much stronger and happier, as a global society.

Ramz_cover_3_blueBG_1800x2560

Peter Simmons thinks he is an ordinary boy, before he is abducted by a man with certain special abilities, learns of his inescapable destiny, befriends immortals and becomes famous wordlwide. Why? Because Peter Simmons is mankind’s last hope for survival.

Author Interview – Michael J. Webb @mjwebbbooks

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/21/2e/adb64d1043d00ad8986c1a.L._V157003795_SX200_.jpg

What books did you love growing up?

The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew when I was young, then anything Science Fiction from Junior High through College, especially Robert Heinlein, Phillip K. Dick (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep was a favorite), Isaac Asimov, Phillip Jose Farmer, Arthur C. Clarke (all the oldies, but goodies).  I read everything James Michener wrote, but my favorite was The Source. I also read a lot of books on biology, chemistry, astronomy, physics, metaphysics, and philosophy. Guess you can tell I was, and still am, an eclectic reader.

Who is your favorite author?

For some time now I have been following Daniel Silva and his protagonist, Gabriel Allon of the Israeli Mossad.  I love Silva’s writing style, his Middle Eastern theme, the way he weaves historical information into his stories, his powerful message about the Jews and Israel, the depth of his characters, and the incredible tension he generates in his plots.  I’m first in line at the library when one of his books comes out.  I do have to say, however, I read a lot of fiction and in a variety of genres, so it is very hard for me to pick a favorite author. I chose Silva because I’ve read all of his novels and he puts one out every year, so it’s a numbers thing.  Before him, it would probably have been Michael Crichton (before he died).

What book genre of books do you adore?

Thrillers–the same genre I love to write.

What book should everybody read at least once?

I’m going to cheat on this question, because I have three:  The Bible, Les Miserable’s, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

How did you develop your writing?

The hard way!  J  I’ve been a voracious and eclectic reader ever since I can remember.  When other guys were focusing on athletics, memorizing sports trivia, or talking about cars, I carried on a not-so-secret love affair with reading. For me, the smell of an old book is like a pheromone.  I love libraries, I love books, and I love reading.  I’ve had the same mistress since I was ten.

Books.

With that kind of foundation, I guess it was only a matter of time before I decided to give writing a try.  I started out writing poetry, then tried short stories, and finally realized that full-length novels were my niche.  In 1984 I had what I thought was a pretty cool idea for a really big story spanning two millennia, a couple characters having a conversation in my head,  and an opening line:  April is a month to be reckoned with.

I sat down and started writing—longhand–on a legal tablet every chance I got.

Several years later I had a manuscript that was longer than Moby Dick, Atlas Shrugged, and War and Peace.  I sent the behemoth off to a NY Agent and received an eight page, single-spaced rejection letter (which I paid for!).

I was depressed for a while, then shook the dust of my feet and carved my baby up into three books.  A couple of years later I sold the story to Crossway Books, and officially became a published author.

That’s when the real challenges began.

But that’s another story, best told on a cold evening over a hot cup of Honduran coffee or Black Tea from the Ukraine–and some soft chocolate chip cookies.

Infernal Gates

Ethan Freeman, ex-Special Forces Ranger, wakes up to discover he is the sole survivor of a fiery commercial airline crash that killed his entire family. His nightmare is only beginning when he becomes the FBI’s prime suspect. Only Ethan knows he’s not a cold-hearted murderer, but he has no idea what happened to him–and why he alone survived.

He finds an unlikely ally in Sam Weaver, the NTSB Chief Investigator. An ex-military pilot, Sam senses Ethan is innocent. She tries to remain dispassionate in her investigation of the crash even as she finds herself attracted to the man who may be America=s worst homegrown mass-murderer.

Neither Ethan nor Sam realize that shadowy spiritual forces are at work which will alter their lives forever.

A monstrous evil, imprisoned since the time of the Pharaohs, has been released by The Nine, a sinister group of powerful men and women who believe they are the direct descendants of the Anunnaki, ancient Sumerian gods. The demon they have unleashed intends to free The Destroyer from The Abyss, the angelic prison referred to in the Book of Revelation, and unleash a worldwide reign of terror and annihilation.

Facing impossible odds, time is running out for Ethan and all of humanity as he is drawn into an ever-deeper conspiracy–millennia in the making–and learns that he is the key to stopping The Nine. Will he overcome his deepest fears and find reserves of strength he never knew he had as he confronts pure evil in order to save himself and an unsuspecting world?

Author Interview – Tom Skinner @PictureBookTom

What was the hardest part about writing this ABC book? Well, it had to be 26 times everything and each page had 4 or 5 integrated layers so it was quite a challenge to keep it all fresh for young and old alike especially with the same repeated refrain on each page which can sometimes drive the parent or reader nuts!

How important do you think villains are in a story? Crucial, especially in my upcoming Batman-style series. Though the Bat is actually a pig (Barny Potta) and the villain (Lean Mean McQueen) is a wolf.

What are your goals as a writer? Creative and financial freedom and to write fun, positive, happy, colorful books that inspire and uplift my readers. Or at least give them a good laugh.

Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)? Only in my mind which can be a dangerous thing! Any travel is inspiring.

What books have most influenced your life? The Introvert Advantage and The Right to Write – both profound and pertinent in every way.

Can we expect any more books from you in the future? I have a new hardback picture book due late next year called BUS FUSS (New Frontier Publishing) which is a counting book featuring Australian animals.

Author Interview – Colin Falconer @colin_falconer

Image of Colin Falconer

How long have you been writing?

I set off for Sydney with the promise of a temporary position as a humour columnist in a big Sydney newspaper in 1984. I had no steady job, a hatful of dreams and a pregnant wife. Somehow we survived and I have made a living from writing ever since. Some years it’s been skin of the teeth, other years it’s been champagne and lobster. But then, if you want stability you’d never be a writer.

When did you first know you could be a writer?

About 3 years ago. The 25 years before that I thought I was a complete fraud. I’ve heard this is a common problem among actors, writers, artists. What happens when they catch me out and find out I’m no good? About 3 years ago though I felt I actually knew what I was doing.

What inspired you to write your first book?

It was a crime novel! VENOM was loosely based on the life of Charles Sobrajh, a serial killer who was operating in Asia when I was a very young man backpacking around Asia. He had actually drugged and murdered lots of very young backpackers around Asia – so naturally I was drawn to the subject. It was my first thriller and launched my career.

Have you ever had writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?

I had writer’s block for about five years. It wasn’t that I stopped writing but I just kept writing the same story over and over in different forms, a bit like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Daddy’s home! Until then, because I’d been so prolific, I’d kind of made fun of writer’s block, I thought it was self indulgent. What I actually had, I think, wasn’t writer’s block but a deep depression resulting from some traumatic things that had happened to me in my life just before then. I had always taken for granted that I could write and then one day I couldn’t do it anymore. When the pall lifted and I got my mojo back I took myself back to school and when I finally started writing again it was like a whole new me.

Can you tell us about your main character?

Isabella of France was a French princess, a real person – she made a brief appearance in BRAVEHEART, as Mel Gibson’s love interest later in the film. This of course was totally impossible in real life – she was only 9 at the time he died.

Isabella has grand designs for her own life, she imagines herself a female version of her father, King Phillip the Handsome of France. She is shipped off to England to marry Edward II as part of an important political alliance. She’s only 12 and she doesn’t understand then that her husband is in love with another man, a junior nobleman called Piers Gaveston. She has been taught obedience all her life, so she goes along with the situation – but she doesn’t go along with it forever.

She was taught all her life to obey. But if she wants to change her own destiny she has to rebel. That means defying all England, even defying God – as the king rules by divine right. Will she do it?

Isabella

She was taught to obey. Now she has learned to rebel.

12 year old Isabella, a French princess marries the King of England – only to discover he has a terrible secret. Ten long years later she is in utter despair – does she submit to a lifetime of solitude and a spiritual death – or seize her destiny and take the throne of England for herself?

Isabella is just twelve years old when she marries Edward II of England. For the young princess it is love at first sight – but Edward has a terrible secret that threatens to tear their marriage – and England apart.

Who is Piers Gaveston – and why is his presence in the king’s court about to plunge England into civil war?

The young queen believes in the love songs of the troubadours and her own exalted destiny – but she finds reality very different. As she grows to a woman in the deadly maelstrom of Edward’s court, she must decide between her husband, her children, even her life – and one breath-taking gamble that will change the course of history.

This is the story of Isabella, the only woman ever to invade England – and win.

In the tradition of Philippa Gregory and Elizabeth Chadwick, ISABELLA is thoroughly researched and fast paced, the little known story of the one invasion the English never talk about.

Gringa – A Love Story (Complete Series books 1-4) by Eve Rabi @EveRabi1

Why do you write?
Because I have a million and one lies to tell.
Have you always enjoyed writing?
I absolutely love writing. I could give up sleep and food for it. Of course, I’d be thin and exhausted, but I would have a shipload of stories out there.
What motivates you to write?
Not being able to find the books I want to read.
What writing are you most proud of? (Add a link if you like)
http://www.amazon.com/MY-BROTHER-RIVAL-Love-book-ebook/dp/B00EVD47YC/
My Brother, My Rival. I love this book. Wrote it in 2009 but only published it in Aug 2013. I worried it was too controversial. I only published it after toning it down drastically.
Gringa
This is the complete Gringa Series, books 1-4 being offered at a discounted price.
SERIES DESCRIPTION:
I was twenty-one, a sassy college student who took crap from no one. While holidaying in Mexico, I was accosted by Diablo and shot, because the motherfucker mistook me for a spy.
I survived, only to encounter him again months later. How’s that for luck?
Furious and sick of all that I’d been through because of him, I slapped him, told him to go fuck himself and braced myself for the bullet. He could shoot me – I no longer cared.
But, to my surprise, the fucker became fascinated with me and blackmailed me into becoming his woman. He’d slay the entire village that sheltered me, if I rejected his proposal.
He was Kong, hairy, tattooed from fingertips to face, with scary ass piercings, blood-shot snake eyes, a ruthless killer and above all, he was my murderer – how could anyone expect me to say yes?
To save the village I had to.
He took me by force, terrorized me into submission and made me his. To make matters worse, I had to put up with his ruthless, backstabbing family who hated me and wanted to kill me.
I despised the bastard and I told him that. Spark flew. Fists too.
When the FBI came on the scene and secretly recruited me to help put Diablo behind bars, I was thrilled. I wanted them to throw his ass behind bars, then torment him for the rest of his life like he was doing to me. I was willing to do whatever it took to get him there.
But, the more I rejected Diablo, the more he wanted me.
At times he wanted to kill me because of my insolence, but other times he just wanted me to love him.
I was his Gringa and in an attempt to get my love, he began to change for me. Drastic changes that made me laugh at him at first, then made me curious and even intrigued me.
After all, I was an ignored child and as an adult, nobody gave a rat’s ass about me. Here was a man who actually wanted me and was willing to do whatever it took to get me – how the hell could I not be flattered?
As the days went by, I found myself drawn to him and I began seeing him differently. When I found out about his past, everything changed.
I now wanted to protect my murderer, my tormentor, The Devil of Mexico from the FBI and I was prepared to lie to the Feds, if it meant saving him from them.
I was even prepared to go to jail for him.
And I did.
My days in Mexico were filled with violence, hate, lust and sorrow.
It was also filled with laughter, love and passion and most importantly, it taught me that love conquers all.
Gringa – a modern–day, love story that will have you laughing, crying and wanting more!
WARNING: This book contains sexual violence, sex scenes, graphic language, drug references, violence and is suitable for mature readers
REVIEWS FROM READERS:
“A crude rendition of Beauty and the beast”
“IMO, It is one of the best romance books ive read in some time. I read it all in one sitting. I couldnt peel my eyes away even for a minute. The story had it all from action to romance.”
“Some scenes had me giggling out loud, but there was one scene that had me laughing out loud for a couple minutes.”
“This book is not for the faint of heart. It’s horrible, dirty, raw, passionate, hilarious, sweet, sad, addictive, and so much more.”
‘One thing that I like from this author now that I have read all her books is that she takes time to develop her characters as well as develop the romance. There is no zero to 60 in 3 seconds here. Her characters are flawed and multi-dimentional. They also experience growth throughout the book. There are plenty of twists and turns in ths book to keep you guessing.’
“A college student, an alpha male. Nuff said. The author has woven such intricate characters in this tale and I will be hard pressed to find another book which was so well rounded and beautifully written.”

Author Interview – Heidi Garrett

What’s your weakest character trait? Not trusting myself. Every time I haven’t trusted myself, I’ve regretted it.

Why do you write? It’s like my breath, and it’s like my heartbeat. It soothes me, revives me, fulfills me, excites me, fascinates me, and intrigues me.

Have you always enjoyed writing? Yes, the blank page, a new notebook, has always thrilled me and filled me with hope. In addition to novels, I’ve written poetry, journals, songs, letters to the editor.

What motivates you to write? In daily conversation I often keep to the surface, and seek pleasant encounters. But I’m a deep thinker, and I question almost everything. Like many, my strongest beliefs don’t fall into simple delineations. There are always other points and personal experience to consider. For me, writing is the best place to work through new awareness. It feels natural to want to sort these things out, to seek the truth as best as we can understand it in our lives.

What are you most proud of in your personal life? My marriage. I grew up in a world of broken relationships. Now, I imagine growing old with my husband, that is something of miracle.

In the Enchanted World, true love’s first kiss is magic.

Nandana’s Mark, Book 1: When two half-faeries–Melia and her younger sister–are cursed under dreadful circumstances, true love’s first kiss is the remedy.

The Flower of Isbelline, Book 2: Nothing but true love’s first kiss can save Melia’s younger sister from blind ambition and ruin.

The Dragon Carnivale, Book 3: Melia must choose the freedom she cherishes or true love’s first kiss–and a relationship that promises to secure her place in the Whole.

The Queen of the Realm of Faerie is a fairy tale fantasy series that bridges the Mortal and Enchanted worlds. The main character, Melia, is an eighteen-year-old half-faerie, half-mortal.

When the story opens in the first book, Melia is troubled by her dark moon visions, gossip she overhears about her parents at the local market, and the trauma of living among full-blooded faeries with wings–she doesn’t have any.

As the series unfolds, the historic and mystical forces that shape Melia’s life are revealed. Each step of her journey–to find the place where she belongs–alters her perceptions about herself, deepens her relationships with others, and enlarges her world view.

True Love’s First Kiss is a compilation of the first three books in this ongoing series.

Do you plan to publish more books?
I’ve had about fifty books published (under several pen names, in several genres, by several publishers, in several languages) and I’m definitely not going to stop now!
I’m already at work on several new titles: Writing Dark Stories for my bestselling series of writing craft books, an anthology of dragon fantasy stories, a collection of steampunk stories, another collection of horror stories, a sequel to my bestselling dark epic fantasy novel Storm Dancer, and more.
What other jobs have you had in your life?
While I’ve been writing professionally for over thirty years, I’ve also always done other jobs at the same time: teaching adult education, journalism, magazine editing, consulting… even weird things like belly dancing and tarot reading. I was  a museum guide,  development aid worker, a trade fair hostess, a bilingual secretary and an apple picker.
Sometimes the writing has been my main job, sometimes a sideline, but I’ve always written, and I’ve always done something else. I need the variety.
The great thing about these jobs is that they feed my fiction.  In the Thirty Scary Tales collection, the story Turkish Night is about belly dancing, and The Painted Staircase is about a guided museum tour, and they ooze authenticity.
If you could study any subject at university what would you pick?
Hmm – if there’s a programme combining archaeology, ancient history, mythology and literature?
How do you write – lap top, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk?
I find switching between different ways of writing stimulates my creativity. Sometimes I use a laptop, sometimes I type with an Alphasmart, sometimes I write by hand. For longhanding, I like ruled hardback A5-sized notebooks and coloured gel pens.
I write at a desk at home, in quiet coffeeshops and (weather permitting) in parks or on the beach.
Tell us about your new book? What’s it about and why did you write it?
Thirty Scary Tales is a collection of creepy, atmospheric, unsettling stories. They’re the suspenseful, psychological, disturbing kind of horror, not the violent gory kind. However, I wouldn’t recommend the book for young readers without parental guidance.
It’s a compilation of volumes 1-5 of the Six Scary Tales series. For this book, I wrote a paragraph  for each story about where the inspiration came from. Fans tell me they love these insights into the author’s mind.
The collection includes some of my most popular stories, including The Bridge Chamber (which some readers say still scares them years after reading it) and the award-winning Burning.
Thirty Scary Tales
Thirty creepy, atmospheric stories by Rayne Hall.
The horror in these stories is spooky, creepy, unsettling and sometimes disturbing. It is not very violent or gory; however, the stories may not be suitable for young readers without parental guidance. PG 13.
This book is a compilation of volumes 1-5 of the Six Scary Tales books. It includes the acclaimed stories Burning and The Bridge Chamber.
All stories have been previously published in magazines, ezines, collections and anthologies. British English.
Stories in collection include:
The Devil You Know, Greywalker, Prophetess, Each Stone A Life, By Your Own Free Will, The Bridge Chamber, Only A Fool, Four Bony Hands, The Black Boar, Double Rainbows, Druid Stones, Burning, Scruples, Seagulls, Night Train, Through the Tunnel, Black Karma, Take Me To St. Roch’s, Turkish Night, Never Leave Me, The Colour of Dishonour, Beltane, The Painted Staircase, I Dived The Pandora, Terre Vert and Payne’s Grey, They Say, Tuppence Special, Disturbed Sleep, Normal Considering the Weather, Arete.

Author Interview – J.L. Myers @BloodBoundJLM

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/76/59/2171cba245260ad8986c39.L._V380953060_SX200_.jpgHave you ever had writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?
I think all writers experience writers block now and then. My trick is to ignore it, to simply start writing knowing that the first paragraph or page will need re-writing and just keep going. Once I get the flow of words and sentences started I’m quickly able to see what should happen next and what should have happened in the beginning.
How did you come up with the title?
Originally What Lies Inside was named Forbidden, but with the trend of one-line book titles coming out I wanted something different, something that related to more than just the main character’s forbidden love for her mortal enemy. So I began brainstorming. In the end I decided on What Lies Inside. It encompasses the theme of lies, betrayal and secrets throughout the story, but also to hints at the monster that has lied unawakened in Amelia until the book’s starting events, and her newfound struggle to keep the monster hidden inside her.
Can you tell us about your main character?
Amelia is a strong and intelligent young woman who’s just discovered her vampire heritage. This revelation turns her entire world upside-down, leaving her to struggle through the sudden change her life has now taken. She’s awkward and angry and utterly human in her struggles to understand what she’s become and how she fits into a suddenly strange world, with new enemies and uncontrollable feelings and impulses.
How did you develop your plot and characters?
I started writing What Lies Inside without any real idea of how the story would progress and only knowing that forbidden love between two feuding races would be the catalyst that would move the plot and characters forward. This was due to my inexperience, and I’ve since developed methods to plot out a story before starting to write it. Though even with my inexperience in this case, something amazing happened. As I began writing, intriguing ideas came to me that gave my characters real desires and real obstacles to overcome. The story idea I’d initially had morphed into a complex plot of lies, desires, secrets, hidden agendas and twists that still give me goose bumps when I read them.
Who designed the cover?
The cover for What Lies Inside was professionally designed by Cory from Digital Print Australia. Being my first cover, I wasn’t familiar with the process. Cory was great, though. He took my ideas and sourced an image that worked for my story and characters, and then modified it until I was 100% happy. To this day, every time I see the cover I can’t help but feel excited.
What Lies Inside
Amelia Lamont never asked to unleash her inner vampire
Amelia’s normal teen world is shattered when a terrifying nightmare awakens the monster inside her. A newfound, insatiable thirst for blood that leads her to drain the school quarterback is only the beginning; she’s horrified to discover that her family and best friend Kendrick have been harboring the secret all along. And is the strangely alluring boy who seems hell-bent on curbing her murderous, blood-filled desires a friend, or foe?
To escape detection Amelia and her twin brother Dorian are forced to move to a new town, and the challenge of a new, exclusive high school where nearly every classmate smells like prey. Including the irresistible Ty, who seems hauntingly familiar, yet darkly menacing …
Amelia’s disturbing dreams and entanglement in a web of forbidden romance render her increasingly powerless against the chilling lies and secrets of vampire power struggles. And, as she soon discovers, vampire politics mixed with outlawed love can be a lethal cocktail.
Falling in love may just cost Amelia everything: her friends, her family…even her life
Move over Twilight, True Blood and Underworld! J.L. Myers’ first book in the Blood Bound series will have you swooning for more!

http://www.orangeberrybooktours.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Constantinopolis.jpg

In 1453 Constantinople is the impregnable jewel of the East. It has stood as the greatest Christian city for a millennium as hordes have crashed fruitlessly against its walls.

But Mehmet II, the youthful Sultan of the Ottoman Turks, has besieged the city. His opponent is Constantine XI, the wise and capable ruler of the crumbling Eastern Roman Empire. Mehmet, distrusted by his people and hated by his Grand Vizer, must accomplish what all those before him have failed to do: capture Constantinople. To prove that he deserves the throne that his father once took from him, Mehmet, against all advice, storms the city. If he fails, he will not only have failed himself and his people, but he will surely lose his life.

On the other side of the city walls, the emperor Constantine must find a way to stop the greatest army in the medieval world. To finance his defenses, he becomes a beggar to the Pope, the Italian city-states, and the Hungarians. But the price for aid is high: The Pope demands the Greeks reunite the Eastern and Western churches and accept the Latin faith. If Constantine wants aid for his people he must choose between their lives and their souls.

Two leaders, two peoples, two faiths battle for their future before the mighty walls of Constantinople.

Author Interview – Julian Rosado

Have you ever had writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it? All the time… but the only thing to do about the writer’s block is to keep on writing through it. To do away with it I turn off the imagination and write about anything I can see or have seen, I describe a picture, a place, anything until that spark some call a muse comes back and imagination takes over again.

Can you share a little of your current work with us? I am beginning Book Four of the Guardians Inc. Series, and starting a graphic novel project with my friend and partner Francisco Trueba completely unrelated to Guardians Inc.

How did you come up with the title? The story named itself, I actually didn’t have a title through the first months of development.  The title of the Series came naturally from within.

Can you tell us about your main character? Thomas begins at almost 16 years old, he is a typical kid from a small town. He doesn’t see himself as a superhero, and he can’t see why he could be so important for Guardians Inc. and the world. He actually believes that being the Cypher is kind of lame.

How did you develop your plot and characters? Before sitting down to write the Cypher I spent about a year and a half plotting the storylines of the series, the characters and where I wanted each one to appear and where the storylines should close.  Then I wrote a rough “map” of the different books that would make the series.

Along that map the plot can “wiggle” a little bit, the characters grow by themselves as they live the story.

Who designed the cover? My partner Francisco and I are Graphic designers, so we threw in a couple of sketches around and once we had a scene from the book that we thought would make a good cover we gave it to the actual illustrator, Fabian Cobos.

GUARDIANS INC.: THE CYPHER

A chance reading of a newspaper ad will send 16 year old Thomas Byrne into the world within our world.  Following the ad he will find Guardians Incorporated. A seven thousand year old organization charged with protecting the balance between Magic and technology.

Through their guidance technology has kept Magic at bay since the Renaissance, but the balance is shifting and soon all those creatures we’ve driven into myth and legend will come back with a vengeance. To protect the present, Guardians Incorporated needs to know the future and to unlock the future they need a cypher.

Author Interview – Jim Musgrave

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge and thank for their support?

My publicist and full-time “Madame,” (inside joke) Ms. Jennifer Perry.

Every writer has their own idea of what a successful career in writing is, what does success in writing look like to you?

It is vital to get exposure and target the right readers for your writing, tell us about your marketing campaign?

Tell us about your new book? What’s it about and why did you write it?

I wrote this trilogy because I wanted to get into the Steampunk genre.  Therefore, the first three books in the Detective Pat O’Malley historical mysteries bring my sleuth ever closer to meeting the main adversaries, the Steam City Pirates.  Technically, only the third novel, Jane the Grabber, features an authentic Steampunk villain, but all of the novels do feature elements present in the genre and aficionados will appreciate them as well.  I hope my marketing campaign will introduce new readers to this interesting genre of fiction, so I can gain a following all my own.  Please read my blog post on this topic.

Do you have an organized process or tips for writing well? Do you have a writing schedule?

Writers can watch for my daily “Sweet Writing Tweets.”

What do you hope people will take away from your writing? How will your words make them feel?

I hope my readers will enjoy learning about history as they are entertained.  I spend many, many hours on historical research for accuracy.  I weave it within the plot like a fine tapestry, and the result (hopefully) should be an overall feeling of satisfaction by the reader.

Jim Musgrave

Here are all three suspenseful mysteries in one book!

Forevermore, the first mystery, was a #2 bestseller in Amazon’s Historical Mystery category. It has received outstanding reviews from readers, and it establishes Pat O’Malley as a detective sleuth par excellence. The second mystery, Disappearance at Mount Sinai, continues the development of the characters amidst an excellent caper. The third mystery, Jane the Grabber, plunges O’Malley into the middle of the Steampunk world, and it marks a turning point in the novels to come.

Forevermore Synopsis:

“Musgrave mixes accurate history with a spell-binding plot to create an amazing who-done-it! Watch for more Pat O’Malley Mysteries.”

In post Civil War New York City, Detective Pat O’Malley is living inside Poe’s Cottage in the Bronx. O’Malley is haunted by Poe one night, and the detective finds a strange note. As a result, O’Malley decides to prove that Edgar Allan Poe did not die in Baltimore from an alcoholic binge but was, instead, murdered. O’Malley quickly becomes embroiled in a “cold case” that thrusts him into the lair of one of the most sinister and ruthless killers in 1865 New York City.

Jim Musgrave’s “Forevermore” is a quick read in four acts that will keep your mind razor sharp trying to solve the mystery of Poe’s murder. Pat O’Malley must first find out how to become intimate with females before he can discover the final clue in this puzzle of wits, murder and romance.

Disappearance at Mount Sinai Synopsis:

What if the anti-Semites, racists, and terrorists wanted the final revenge following the Civil War? How do you stop them from committing the worst atrocity?

It’s 1866 in New York City. Civil War Vet and Detective Pat O’Malley’s biggest case returns him to the deep, dark South to search for the kidnapped wealthiest inventor and entrepreneur in America. But the widening gyre of anti-Semitism and racism pulls him down into the pit of hell itself. Disguised as an Oxford England Professor, O’Malley infiltrates the anti-Semites’ group and travels with his partners, Becky Charming and his father, Robert, down to a Collierville, Tennessee mansion.

At the crux of this case are a Jewish father and his five-year-old son, Seth. They have developed a unique bond that relies on Jewish folklore and a belief that they are Mazikeen, half-angel and half-human, born from the loins of Adam’s strange female cohorts during the 130 years he was banished from the Garden. Will O’Malley find Dr. Mergenthaler before it’s too late? What does this world-wide eugenics group have planned for the mongrel races? Read Jim Musgrave’s Disappearance at Mount Sinai, the second mystery in the series of Pat O’Malley Mini-Mysteries.

Jane the Grabber Synopsis:

What was it like before women were given rights to determine their own destinies? How was abortion and birth control used in the 1860s? What happens to a society when the last sexual taboo is permitted? Find out in the third mystery in the Pat O’Malley Historical Steampunk Mystery Series, Jane the Grabber.

Author Interview - Yvonne Jones

Why do you think there is a gap between military and civilian worlds?

Well, let’s see. As I wrote in my book, a smaller share of Americans currently serve in the Armed Forces than at any other given point in time since the Second World War. And I believe that this is the reason for this growing gap between people in uniform and the civilian population. Back in the day, most everyone in America had similar experiences regarding war, since most families had at least one individual within the Armed Forces due to draft laws and regulations. They all knew what it felt like to have someone out there risking their life for their country. War used to be something everyone was forced to live and endure. Everyone understood what it meant, how horrible it was, and why it should be avoided at all costs. But this is no longer the case.

Nowadays, most people outside a military installation have little understanding of what it means to send a loved one off to war. They don’t know what impact multiple deployments can have on service members, their spouses, and their children. Most of these people are not aware of this part of the population that serves their country. And the result is a military far less connected to the rest of society when compared to previous decades.

We currently live in a world where invisible wounds are considered imaginary, where separation from one’s better half is deemed normal and therefore not worthy of any sympathy. We live in a world, where record-high service member suicides are barely of anyone’s concern outside the military. And this current perception and lack of awareness needs to be changed.

Why this ambiguous title? Why not “Closing The Gap: Understanding Your SOLDIER,” for example?

Well, I have to admit that substituting the word “Serviceman” with “Soldier” would have made for a catchier title. But if I’d used the term “Soldier,” some Military Families might have been discouraged from reading this book, simply because they would have thought it only covered the Army and wouldn’t apply to THEIR branch, since the term “Soldier” is technically used to describe a service member within the Army only. But I wanted this book to appeal and apply to all families and friends of our service members out there, no matter what branch within our military. So that’s why I chose the more generic term “Serviceman.”

Was there a specific event, or series of events, in your life as a military spouse that made you realize this book was needed?

Most definitely. Many, really. And they pop up everywhere you go, if you pay attention to them.

Most of my civilian friends, for instance, are always amazed when they hear that our address has changed yet again. And then they usually ask, if we aren’t tired yet of all the moving around, and why we don’t just stay longer. Most believe that the frequency of our moves is dictated by the military family itself, rather than by the service member’s command.

Another very important reason that caused me to write this book was the fact that our civilian families and friends seemed to grow a bit resentful toward our chosen assignment locations over the past couple of years, simply because they don’t know what all plays into the decision-making process of the service member’s new duty station. Most assume that we get to choose where and whenever we want to move, which then causes them to believe that we voluntarily chose a place far away from them.

And then you always here questions like “So, when are you going to move again?” or “Where are you going to move to next?” Questions no one really knows the answers to, including ourselves. And that always seems so incomprehensible to people outside the military. The unpredictability of our lifestyle is simply beyond any of their own experiences that most civilians have a hard time imagining what our life really is like.

Was it difficult to get “outside” your military life to see the things that you needed to address, that civilians don’t understand?

Not really. I knew what needed to be addressed in order to help our civilian families and friends understand our way of life a bit better. I mean, civilians more or less ask the same questions all the time, like “When are you going to move again?” and “Where are you going to move next?” So I knew I had to include something about the moving process and the assignment process, to help them see how things really work.

What WAS difficult, however, was to think of some issues that NEEDED to be addressed, but are never asked about by outsiders, simply because they don’t know about those differences. You can’t ask questions about something if you’re not even aware of its existence.

For example, in my book I write that it’s not very often that we’re asked to explain the DIFFERENCES between the military and the civilian lifestyles; and that this, in turn, might imply that civilians are simply not aware that there are distinctions between these two worlds.

Most people outside the military, for example, don’t realize that over the years we have created something that is referred to as a Military Culture, in which we share common beliefs and behaviors.

Another example of an issue that needed to be addressed, but is almost never asked about is the wellbeing of a military family AFTER the service member returns home from a deployment. Most assume that once the family is reunited, the hardest part of the deployment process is over; whereas in reality, those that actually HAVE experienced a deployment know that that’s the time where most problems for a military family begin.

These are all important issues, yet, they never get asked about simply because outsiders don’t know about their existence. And that’s where my book comes in. To draw attention to those problems and concerns, so that they can be discussed and talked about.

Author Spotlight - Bradley Convissar

What books have most influenced your life? Neil Gaiman's American Gods, Tad Williams War of the Flowers, Koontz's Watchers, Midnight, House of Thunder, Door to December, and Life Expectancy, almost everything by King, almost everything by Clive Barker, Peter Straub's Lost Boy, Lost Girl and In the Night Room

Have you ever considered anyone as a mentor? No. That was easy. No one has ever shown enough interest in me. I am alone in this large, lonely publishing world.

Who is your favorite author and why? King because he is the master storyteller and Barker because he is a master of language. But Gaiman is right up there.

Can we expect any more books from you in the future? God, I hope so. Once I've finished with the serial, I want to start on an introductory novel in an open-ended series and get back to work on another of my stand-alone projects.

Have you started another book yet? Bloodlines: A Serial. Part 1- Abomination, Part 2-Brutalization, Part 3- Corruption, Part 4- Damnation, Part 5 (if I need one)- Extinction. It is shaping up to be four 20K word episodes with a possible 5th.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Still practicing dentistry, hopefully less than now so I can dedicate another hour a day to writing, but we'll see. I don’t look to the future too much. The day-to-day is enough to keep my mind occupied.

Are you reading any interesting books at the moment? I'm always reading 2-3 books, one traditionally published books by one of my favorite authors and one or two Indie/small press books. Right now, I am reading XO by Jeffery Deaver and Long Black Coffin by Tim Curran. Once I am done with XO, I am going to be moving on to The Bride Wore Black Leaver, a Nightside book by one of my favorites, Simon Green, and when I am done with Tim Curran... well, I'll decide when I get there.  My Kindle is full of great books.

Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest and why? I'm always reading Indie and small press authors, and I've found some new fun ones, especially some of the horror authors from Dark Fuse and Nightscape Press. I'll be honest, I am MUCH more inclined to try out a new Indie author than a new traditionally published author these days because I refuse to pay $9.99 for an eBook or $10 for a paperback. Now $2.99-$4.99 for an Indie book that is usually AS good as a traditionally published book, that's what I am investing in now with new authors.

What are some of the best tools available today for writers, especially those just starting out? The internet for research and Facebook groups for advice. What more can you ask for? The good writers out there are happy to share their expertise and knowledge with those just starting out. The good writers don't view new writers as competition.

What contributes to making a writer successful? Having a professional cover done, paying for professional editing. It isn't cheap, but if you want people to take you seriously, you need to view it as an investment and put out a professional product.  Also, discipline.  Can’t worry about selling a book unless you sit and write one.

Do you have any advice for writers? Don't give up. Don't get distracted. Give yourself deadlines! Write at the same time every day. Make sure that spouses or significant others respect your writing time. Even if it is a second job, it is a job and you need to treat it like a job. Set up a space. Ask questions on Facebook. The resources are there, use them.

What do you do to unwind and relax? Go to the gym. Play video games. Read. Watch TV. I'm a simple man.
